Great Horned Owls are among the earliest nesting species. Often nesting by late February here in New England they endure brutal cold and snow during their incubation period and even after the owlets hatch. Keeping them warm and fed can be a daunting chore. In the late winter-early spring of 2016 I was able to locate 2 Great Horned Owl nests. The pictures here are from one of the nests-highlighting the complete cycle from incubation to branching.
